One of the few HR people to rise to CEO level at a major conglomerate created a "Giraffe Award" given at the annual corporate banquet for the gutsiest gamble of the year. It was frequently a mistake of epic proportions, but he believed in encouraging and reinforcing bold career-risking decision-making. Many people have recognized The Value of Mistakes, for playing it safe assures that little learning or improvement will ever take place.
