Right on, Ann! I could not agree more. A prior Compensation Audit discussion at http://www.worldatwork.org/waw/community/discussions/discuss.jsp?did=13737 features my ancient list of 10 major philosophical value components that invariably affect the trade-offs that affect compensation strategy.

There should be no prescription without prior diagnosis. You can't design a responsive system without knowing the values to be maintained. You can't reach an unknown destination. PPPPPP.

GREAT post! I was having a discussion about this topic yesterday. I will be providing this article to my client as additional ammunition in their efforts to combine corporate values and standard compensation philosophy to truly support their culture and goals.

You'd think paying for what you want would be a no-brainer but it's actually something of an art form...
