Sure sounds nice and sensible. Best Buy, however, paid almost a million to settle the NY State class action suit last year over non-payment of time spent going through security checks when leaving work. They admitted no wrongdoing but did change their practices to include that time for payment as "on the clock."

We have a 21st Century world of knowledge workers whose pay is constrained by a legal code based on a 19th Century factory assembly-line mentality.
