Hi Dan,
Nice post. I to cringe when I hear of the one size fits all approach or HR professionals restricting themselves to the normal rules and minimums and maximums. We have to provide more flexibility and understanding of business issues. Outliers do exist and we have to recognize them and act appropriately.

But every grandchild is a superstar to their grandma, too. Employees already have their own inflated self-images, as well. It's always difficult to explain when you don't want to lose competent workers that they simply are not extraordinary.
