Great piece, Chuck. Sage advice too. "...similar to how too much sugar inevitably causes tooth cavities in children." That is rich with meaning.

Why some think rewards are just another HR Project (with all the disdain associated with that moniker) shows the depth of myopia that exists, even among otherwise intelligent people.

I often ask: Would anyone here work for absolutely zero rewards? Would you like them to find out that their rewards are unfair, non-competitive, inconsistent, .....(all the usual errors that startups end up committing)? What if it turns out that you have been seriously violating state and federal laws with your current practices? Etc., etc.
