August vacation world is currently in full swing. I want to relax with you, but I have many blogs to write before my own vacation. To make them fun while I count the days until my time off, I thought I would write a series about our upcoming main event -- planning for end of year performance assessment and reward implementation. And I thought I'd do it with a little panache, so I can have fun, too.
The articles will cover many of the issues you'll have to wrangle soon, and the first letter of the titles will spell out VACAY:
Value end-of-year implementation -- How to make it important, worthwhile and useful
Are you gutsy enough to tell the truth to power?
Can you get anyone's attention with your emails?
Are you ever able to change people's minds?
(Do) You care about managers as people?
I know from long experience that most of us have a bad habit of putting off planning end-of-year performance and pay activities until late September/early October. It works well enough every year so why think hard about it this year? Well, let's see. Can you really say that you've improved your relationship with employees as a result of your recent compensation communication efforts?
See, that's what I mean. I'm betting it will be easier to talk about compensation communications planning while you have a sand shovel in one hand and a pail in the other. At least, I'm going to give it a shot (and hopefully send you inspiration to build the sand castles of your dreams).
