Chuck, I have also encountered these "experts" in my 40-year Comp career. Unfortunately they are often called (or are quickly promoted to) VP of HR.

Brennan's Law on Consulting #9:

Experts usually aren’t. Those who truly deserve the title tend to deny omniscience and are quick to voluntarily admit the depth of their ignorance. There is a perfect inverse correlation between expertise and claims of its possession.
