OK, Ann, beyond the many examples of questions you should not seek to answer with market data that were already covered in my old http://www.compensationcafe.com/2012/04/the-compensation-cookbook.html post, I could add:

- how to be a leader,
- ways to distinguish yourself, and
- optimal superior routes different from the heavily-trodden paths followed by the mediocre.

But, on the other hand, benchmarking DOES supply guidance for the degree of deviation from the norm that you may require for excellence.
