Leaders are not followers.

High achievers know the typical averages but choose the innovative outliers. Many fail, while the few who succeed are belatedly imitated by those who now seek security amidst the new pack of laggard copycats who similarly lack the guts to risk failure. Mediocrity is reassuringly comfortable.

While "anyone can do this" is a modern meme, the vast majority can't or won't even try.
