Let's look at the impact of overlooked team members whose presence seems to spur their groups to consistently extraordinary achievement levels. While not really standing out from the others around them, they do SOMETHING that raises the performance levels of their unit. With them, the team excels. Without them, it returns to mediocrity. That's important!

Research is badly needed on the individual behavioral characteristics and group output consequences of such "positive synergy agents." They are undramatic critical contributors. While they may not stand out in conventional measures of output value, they clearly have a significant effect on the groups blessed by the presence of such force multipliers.

Reward consequences should flow to those who are pivotal to success, right?
