Stephanie Thomas

StephanieThomas-profile-2014Stephanie Thomas, Ph.D., is a Lecturer in the Department of Economics at Cornell University and the Program Director for the Institute for Compensation Studies (ICS) at Cornell’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations. ICS is an interdisciplinary center that researches, teaches and communicates about monetary and non-monetary rewards from work, and how these rewards influence outcomes for individuals, companies, industries and economies.

Throughout her career, Stephanie has completed research on a variety of topics including wage determination, pay gaps and inequality, and performance-based compensation systems. She has published papers in journals such as Compensation & Benefits Review and the Journal of Compensation and Benefits. Stephanie frequently provides expert commentary in a media outlets such as The New York Times, CBC, and NPR.

Prior to joining Cornell University, Stephanie spent 15 years as a consultant specializing in the analysis of compensation and selection decisions in the workplace. She has testified as an economic and statistical expert in federal and state courts throughout the United States.

Stephanie earned a Ph.D. in Economics from The New School for Social Research.
